Alter Ego which in 1951 raised the 41/2
litre World Speed Record to 115.045 m.p.h. This record stands for a class of boats employing immersed screws and inboard motors, and increases by about 30 miles an hour the previous World Record held by the boat Grey Goose. On its record run the boat was in the hands of Paul Sawyer and the run took place at Salton Sea. California. The 12 cwt. boat was powered by a standard Ford V8 engine delivering 215 h.p.; when the boat was in contact with the water during its run only the extreme rear edges of the sponsons and the hull touched!
If one sets out to design a model hydroplane of semi-scale appearance the result is so close to Alter Ego that it becomes obvious that a scale model of this boat is first-class for a fairly high speed model hydroplane.
