    Description

Up for sale is this antique Trophy Cup for the 100 yard dash, I'm assuming this was a swimming event held in 1914 by the United States Volunteer Lifesaving Corps, this was a group founded to support the US Lifesaving Service. The winner was J (John) M Hincks and the trophy was presented by Sheriff William Volmer. My research indicates he was sheriff of South Norwalk, Connecticut. Hincks would go on to captain the Yale swim team and was at Camp Zachary Taylor in 1920. In not sure if he went on to serve in World War I from there or not. Just about anything Lifesaving Service is a well sought after piece of American history and this is a piece that should not be overlooked. It's fairly large for a Trophy cup, measuring about 11" tall, 9 1/4" across handles. Shows some wear & scratches, tarnishing, looks like it leans slightly to the left, there is a flat spot or dent in the rim of the cup right at right handle.
