    David Metcalf presents full-size plans for a Modern luxury trawler yacht
    . I will try to aim to do these instructions so that someone who has never before built a model can make this one. With this in mind the more experienced builders amongst you will be in a position to use your own techniques and methods, so no more waffling, let's get on.
    Model size
    As mentioned above, the drawings are all to a scale of 3/4in. to 1ft., giving a model length of 28 3/4in. overall. If you build it with the inflatable dinghy and davits the length will be 331/2 in. overall. Beam is 101/4 lin. and model displacement will be approximately 16.51b. The overall height will be about 18in The drawings show the boat drawn as per the demonstrator, however there will also be a detail drawing of the dinghy and davits. All the interior is detailed and can be built if you wish, however, if not, replace the clear glazing with dark 'smoked' glass so that the interior is not missed.
    The drawings are to scale and can be worked from without hesitation!
    Hull construction
    This will depend very much on the experience of the modeller and on the amount of time you wish to spend on the model; as I have said, I prefer to use the styrene hull as this is the quickest method, but for those who wish to use other ways let's quickly go through them.
    Plank-on-frame hull
    The hull sections are shown on the drawing. Their stations are shown under the main elevation on the drawing. We will assume that as there is no particular worry about the model displacement we will build the frame work from l,4in. ply, and we will skin the model in l/sin. thick spruce planks.
    Bread and butter hull
    Now we will make the hull using Waterline Sections, so go to the hull sections on the drawing and draw lines across them at the thickness of your planks, take one of the planks and using a square along the edge mark off the stations along the plank assuming that the edge will be the centreline.
