French Art Deco Salamander on Cobalt Blue Galalith Brooch Pin Painlevé Painleve

Description

You are looking at a vintage Art Deco era (1930's or 40's) pin or brooch depicting a salamander on a cobalt blue galalith and brass metal backing.  Galalith is a plastic contemporary to bakelite. It is marked Déposé (patented) on the back. Although unsigned, it is most likely the work of the jewelry designer Jean Painlevé. He worked with both galalith and bakelite plastics when he made jewelry.
The pin measures 1 3/8"  across by 1 5/8" tall.
In excellent
condition, no chips or cracks. Clasp works fine.
