ANTIQUE C.1920 JAPANESE BRASS / IRON HIBASHI HIBACHI CHOPSTICKS

Description

A pair of brass and iron tongs used with any hibachi, including during the tea ceremony.
The upper handle is brass (non magnetic) and the lower part of the tongs are iron.
Brass conducts heat more
efficiently / faster than iron. So the bottom that would handle burning charcoal was made with the less conductive iron
while the handle was made with the more beautiful and easier to shape brass.
Used like regular chopsticks these would transfer coal into the fire while the hibach is being used. For a better grip they have a
six sided handle with a ball at the end to make it easier to hold and
fit better in the hand.
They are 10 3/8 inches long (26.5 cm).
