    Description

    These are two souvenir tokens produced in 1962 to commemorate the Hagerstown (MD) Bi-Centennial and Antietam-South Mountain (MD) Centennial celebrations.  The token coins are gold in color, I am thinking (due to the greenish pitting on the back of the second coin) that it might be pot metal coated with copper???
    Anyway, the front of the token coin has a central image of Clara Barton (bust).  Around the edges of the token read "Angel of the Battlefield, Founder of the American Red Cross, Clara Barton".
    Around the back side edge reads "Hagerstown Bi-Centennial-Antietam-South Mountain Centennial, Souvenir Money".  In the center of the back reads "Good for 50 cents in trade at any cooperating business or redeemable at any Washington or Frederick County Maryland Bank on or before 2:00 PM, June 5, 1962.
    The token measures 1-5/16" in diameter.
    The first token in the photos has slight wear to the front and is in nice condition on the back.
    The second token in the photos has slight wear to the front, but the back is very pitted and there is some green in the pitting.
    Civil War afficionados know that Antietam was a very bloody battle, fought just west of Frederick, Maryland.  Several other battles were also fought in the area, including Frederick and South Mountain.  Battles were also fought near Hagerstown, Maryland.
